The Dignity of Things

I
We live in a world permeated by things. Most of the time, we perceive them only in their function. Yet when we remove them from their context, place them on a pedestal or in a neutral space, they begin to speak another language.
Suddenly, the useful becomes purposeless, the purposeless gains dignity. We realize that things are not only means to an end, but silent witnesses of our existence.
By granting them our attention, they reveal their hidden aura. They remind us that culture always grows from the banal, that beauty can dwell in the invisible, and that every object—from the simplest tool to the most trivial commodity—has a right to contemplation and respect.
The dignity of things does not lie in serving us, but simply in being.
